   * Since 小楢い is about people rather than 道具, position yourself slightly higher when handling the 柄杓 than in しかでん.
   * 水指 lid is opened with 3 hands in 風呂 and 炉 長板. 2 hands are used when replenishing water in 炉 長板, and for 炉 平手前.
   * Turning when preparing for 拝見 in 炉: Turn 90° for 茶入れ and 棗, turn back fully to 正面. Get 茶杓, turn to 45°, place 茶杓, from same position take 仕覆. Place from same position, then turn back to 正面.
   * In 風炉, you always turn 45° and back to 0°
   * For all the 小習い, point to the inner corner of the 炉. Exceptions are the 飾り点前（かざり）, and the 七事式（しち　じしき）group exercises, which both point to the outer corner.
