樂吉左衛門 — head of the 楽 family, makers of *raku* tea bowls since the 16th century. The current master is the XV generation.
永樂善五郎 — potter responsible for non-楽 ceramic wares and historically for the 土風炉. According to the NHK documentary, though, the current XVII generation is trying to bring that lacquer-like glaze for the 土風炉 back.
中村宗哲 — lacquer artisan, the current head is the XIII generation (female!).
土田半四郎 — master of silk. Current head: XIII generation (his mother was XII 友湖).
飛来一閑 — lacquer artisan responsible for 一閑張, a technique using lacquered paper over lightweight wooden forms. She is the head, but her husband and kid help her.
奥村吉兵衛 — mounting specialist.
黒田正玄 — bamboo craftsman responsible for tea utensils such as *chasen*, *chashaku*, and bamboo flower containers. The Kuroda family is renowned for highly refined bamboo work specifically adapted to the needs of *chanoyu*. The present master continues this hereditary craft tradition.
大西清右衛門 — maker of *kama* (iron kettles) used for boiling water in the tea ceremony. The Ōnishi workshop in Kyoto has produced tea kettles since the 16th century, with each generation continuing classical casting techniques and forms associated with *chanoyu*.
