- Two main themes are the cold winter, and the end of the year.
- For the year's end, tidy your physical and social space, bringing in order relationships, but also replacing the paper screens. On 13 XII, you bring 鏡餅（かがみ もち) to your teachers.
- For winter, snow, slate, hail are great symbols, as are bare trees and ducks with their heads tucked in.
- In my calendar, we're practising the different ways of the thick tea container (茶入飾, 唐物 and 和巾; even though the latter is actually a tea-点前 and should be grouped with 茶通箱; or be done in August).

Scrolls
I like the following:
- 鶴飛千尺雪 （つるは とぶ せんじゃく の ゆき, the crane flies — a thousand feet of snow)
- 冬嶺孤松秀 (とう れい こしょう ひ いつ, on a winter hill, a lone pine stands still）
- 紅炉一点雪 (こう ろう いってん の ゆき, above the heart, a single snowflake）, which I actually have 😻
- 松樹千年翠, which I got, too 😻
花
- Mittwer suggests Witch-hazel and Judith camellia Container: Ash-glazed Iga pottery
- Sen again suggests camelia
和菓子
- 主菓子 by Sen: Kazabana (snowflake) sweets. Gently falling snowflakes resemble flower petals being scattered by the wind. A steamed sweet filled with red-bean paste and stamped with the design of a snowflake.
- 干菓子 by Sen: Yukiwa (snowflake) sweets. Sugar cakes pressed into the form of snowflakes. LOWER LEFT: Sasamusubi (bamboo-grass knot) sweets. Along mountain paths in the winter, bamboo grass can be seen beneath the snow. These sugar cakes are shaped and colored to resemble leaves of bamboo grass tied in knots.
