Yellow Tea

Mengding Yellow Buds 2018 from freshteastories

  • 蒙顶黄芽 (Mengding Huang Ya) varietal from Sichuan. Mengding is a famous mountain for tea, foggy and rainy. It's possibly where tea was first cultivated.
  • I like this tea: It's not too aromatic, but great texture and warming.

  • Western (12 VII 18): juicy leaves! Wet leaves smell surprisingly pleasant, nutty aroma, maybe cashews? Empty cup sweet, baked mangos. Brew lovely straw colour! Nose green, arugula and vegetable stew, and again, slightly toasted cashews. Slight minerality, good structure! Not so much astringent as a slight acidity, plays off well its juiciness. As it cools, some acacia honey, white grapes and light woodiness.
  • All in all, not a terribly aromatic tea, but a slight nuttiness and well put together structure.
  • GFC: Nose more nutty, some almonds joining in. In the mouth, juiciness more pronounced, almost like roasted bell peppers. Again, not very aromatic, but very satisfying.
  • TCM: According to Li Shizhen, it's warm in terms of TCM, not cool; feel GB, esp GB10, and SP4
