織部
利休 said about him: After I am gone, 織部 will preside over the world of tea (CQ80). His entire family was ordered to commit suicide after they rebelled against the 徳川(とくがわ)clan.
Famous anime and manga へうげもの, where he plays an important role
Famous poem from XIX century, separating the tastes of the tea masters from each other:
織部 is disputatious
遠州 has refined beauty and a cutting blade
そうわ is princess-like
and そおたん is squalid
He was a warrior when young, became a student later of Rikyuu's. Possibly to connect to important men.
Becomes a 大名 later on, and best buddies with
利休, they exchange letters and objects,
利休 sends him a few of his famous self-made flower vases
After
利休's death, he becomes the principal tea guy, and 秀吉 asks him to make CNY more suitable to the warriors.
1599 first mention of a
織部-style bowl, referred to as a
irregularly-shaped Seto tea bowl.
Also ordered to suicide at 1615, again a puzzle as big as
利休's. Possibly also political. His utensils are confiscated and
遠州 receives his home.
Had his very own style, actively differing from
利休. He wrote about some of
利休's rules in 1590, but 20 years later, he wrote another collection of rules that go explicitly against the older ones.
Legend has it he deliberately destroyed objects to fit his taste
織部 didn't really have a school, since he didn't have kids (?)
遠州 school however used
織部 as a link to
利休
Innovation
織部 innovates the garden and tea house design (next to ceramics, of course)
