Oribe
Yamada Yoshihiro's famous anime and manga hyouge mono, where he plays an important role
Waraya bowl 藁屋, for example
Oribe is disputatious / Enshuu has refined beauty and a cutting blade / Soowa is princess-like / and Sootan is squalid
Famous poem from XIX century
Iemoto system: ie for house, hierarchical, hidden (hiden), and own set of dogu (each iemoto head adds new objects) (or a new box to an item).
But in XVI that system wasn't in place, it was just tea masters (usually from Sakai and warlords). Preservation wasn't so important, there was room for innovation. Also the question of who owned dogu wasn't so important, because people where usually first or second owners.
More important was the question of konomi: That happens after the lifetime
We don't know if a tea master owned it, saw it, or commissioned it. We just know that they liked it. ('according to the taste')
This is just important in the following centuries, not in the XVI.
He was a warrior when young, became a student later of Rikyuu's. Possibly to connect to important men.
Becomes a daimyo
Also best buddies with rikuyy, they exchange letters and objects (r sends him a few of his famous self-made flower vases)
After rikyuus death, he becomes the principal tea guy, and Hideyoshi asks him to make CNY more suitable to the warriors.
Interested in karatsu yaki ware in 1592.
1599 first mention of a Oribe style bowl. ('irregularly-shaped Seto tea bowl)
Also ordered to suicide at 1615, again a puzzle as big as Rikyuus mystery. His utensils are confiscated and Enshuu receives his home
Yamanoue Sooji sais: A tea master between 40-50 should bring his own style into CNY and breathe new fresh life into CNY. (waga ryuu) - so this can't have been the reason for which Oribe was ordered suicide.
In the Oribe densho he writes rules for tea which directly go against some of rikyuu rules, which he had written up a few years earlier in 1590. (oribe hakkyhako?)
Legend has it he deliberately destroyed objects to fit his taste
Oribe didn't really have a school, since he didn't have kids
Enshuu school however used Oribe as a link to Rikyuu
Within
