二祖調心圖 (2nd patriarch in contemplation)
白蔵主(はく ぞうす)
Name of a fox who changed shape to convince a fox trapper to stop it. Painting by Eiraku Hozen, a famous, flamboyant potter; his painting style is quite in contrast (from
Met Museum). The poem reads:
Beware of those who have renounced the world
although they wear the robes of priests
at heart they are foxes still.
